MP boys win, girls take second in Washington

WASHINGTON - Both the Panther boys' and girls' track teams ran in Washington on Thursday evening. The boys' team won the meet with 212 points, topping second place Washington, who scored 125. The Panther girls took second by just four points. Iowa City Liberty won with 177 points and Mt. Pleasant was right behind them with 173.
The Panther boys took 10 events, including yet another sweep of the field events. Sam Beatty won the high jump with a leap of 6-02. Rylan Seberg won the long jump, leaping 21-06.50. Cooper Pullis and Riley McQuiggin went one-two in the shot put with a 48-04.50 and a 45-02 respectively, and Zach Beason and Pullis went one-two in the discus throw, finishing with a 155-08 and a 125-11 respectively.
The Panthers also went one-two in the 800-meter run. Jacob Stukerjurgen finished first in 2:04.95, and Brody Bender finished right behind him in 2:05.97.
Khang Truong won the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.50 seconds. Chase Lamm took the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.51 seconds.
The Mt. Pleasant boys won three relays. The 4X100 team won in 44.89 seconds. The 4X400 team took first in 3:35.48, and the shuttle hurdle relay team took gold in 1:04.24.
The girls' successes were highlighted by a big night from Maggie Cristoforo. Not only did Cristoforo cruise to victory in the 400-meter hurdles, but she broke the meet record with a final time of 1:07.97. She also won the 400-meter dash in 1:03.04, beating teammate Kenna Lamm, who took second, in 1:07.15.
Maggie Jennings won the girls' 800-meter run, taking it in 2:31.99. Lexie Magnani picked up the Panther girls' lone win in the shot put, throwing 40-10.
The track teams will be back in action next week. The girls will be at Ft. Madison on Tuesday, April 9, and the boys will host a home meet on Thursday, April 11.
