MP man leads officers in pursuit; marijuana found in his possession

A Mt. Pleasant man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit and investigation that found 72 grams of marijuana in his possession.
Kevin Fleming, of Mt. Pleasant, was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail after a high-speed chase through Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, July 7, around 7:55 p.m.
The chase began after the Mt. Pleasant Police Department attempted to stop a 2004 Pontiac vehicle driven by Fleming that was leaving the scene of a reported domestic situation. The vehicle failed to pull over after officers activated their top lights and sirens.
The pursuit continued through Mt. Pleasant and came to a stop when the offending vehicle crashed into trailers 63 and 64 in Heritage Trailer court at 200 East South Street.
Fleming then fled the vehicle and a foot chase ensued. He was caught in the area of lot 10 and taken into custody.
A search of the area by officers turned up a Gucci bag that Fleming had while he was running on foot from the officers. The bag contained approximately 72 grams of Marijuana, a digital scale and a grinder.
As a result of the vehicle pursuit and further investigation by officers, Fleming has been charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, a Class D felony; failure to affix drug tax stamp, a Class D felony; eluding, a Class D felony; two counts of trespassing causing over $200 in damage, serious misdemeanors; interference with official acts, simple misdemeanors; assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor; no driver's license; no insurance; failure to yield to an emergency vehicle; two counts of failure to obey a stop sign; failure to obey traffic control device; and four counts of speeding in excess of 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff's Office and Breuers Towing and Recovery.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
