MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant High School kicked off homecoming week with a Boom Day Pep Assembly complete with music, cheers, games and skits to increase school spirit.
Following lively music from the marching band, the cheerleaders took center stage to further hype up the crowd in front of festive banners for each high school class.
After an announcement from student council members reiterating the dress up days for the week, High School Principal Michael Wilson invited senior representatives from the volleyball team, cross-country team, and football team for a game led by a handful of cheerleaders.
The game, which brought many laughs from participants and spectators, consisted of following directions to perform silly tasks without becoming the odd-man-out or the slowest to get to a new destination.
Students also participated in a quick-paced dodge ball tournament accentuating the rivalry among classes. Despite sophomores taking out the freshman early, they could not hold up against the senior class which fought hard to win against the juniors before dominating the underclassmen.
A highlight of the homecoming kickoff celebration included a comedic skit from entertaining staff members.
Sitting in a row of chairs staff sat silently and watched the crowd watching them. They didn’t need a single word to garner enthusiastic reactions from students.
The group used physical comedy to entertain as they slowly passed along discreet physical gestures such as waving, holding hands, wrapping their arms around one another, and sharing a bag of popcorn in a hilariously flirty version of telephone.
“V-I-C-T-O-R-Y,” the cheerleaders led each class in a call and response followed by one more round of the school fight song with the band as they wrapped up the beginning of a fun-packed homecoming week at Mt. Pleasant High School.
