CEDAR RAPIDS — Throughout a long, hot day filled with two competitions, Mt. Pleasant Community High School’s marching band maintained powerful performances of their show “The Power of One” and brought home third and fourth place from the Cedar Rapids area.
With unseasonably warm weather putting temperatures in the 90s, the band marched in their uniforms for the Bands Across the Prairie then to avoid overheating, they performed in band T-shirts at the Five Season Invitational.
Even with the heat and travel, Mt. Pleasant Music Boosters said the band did well at the two marching band competitions in Cedar Rapids as they placed fourth out of nine in the 3A Class at Bands Across the Prairie and third out of seven at the Five Seasons Invitational.
In addition, the color guard snagged caption awards for the best color guard in their class at both competitions. The color guard scored 96 out of 100 points and tied for best in all classes.
Next weekend will hold an even longer day of travel as the band heads to Kahoka, Missouri for the Parade of Champions Invitational Oct. 7.
