MT. PLEASANT — While fall commonly means football season for many, it also means marching band season for those in the music department at Mt. Pleasant Community School District. With the season in full swing, MPCSD looks forward to hosting their annual Marching Band Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 21 at Mapleleaf Stadium.
MPCSD bands began practicing for the season early in August and started off strong with parades in Salem and Mt. Pleasant, multiple performances at Midwest Old Threshers, and a few football games already. Before hitting getting into the full-swing of competition season themselves, the band will host their annual invitational for the 24th year this weekend.
The show will start with the seventh and eight grade Mt. Pleasant Middle School at 5:30 p.m. followed by 12 different competing high school bands from across the state including Wapello, Central Lee, Tipton, Center Point-Urbana, Washington, Mt. Vernon, Keokuk, Fort Madison, Oskaloosa, Council Bluffs, Ottumwa and Muscatine. Mt. Pleasant Community High School’s Panther Marching Band will end the evening at 9:15 with an exhibition performance followed by awards at 9:30 p.m.
Each band will do more than just march the football field and play music. They will perform choreography fitting for their specifically selected music, color guard will add to the performance, and drum lines will hope to catch the attention of judges to claim awards.
While this makes for a long evening filled with plenty of entertainment, those in attendance are sure to get hungry, and the Mt. Pleasant Marching Band Invitational has got them covered. The concession stand will offer a variety of meal options throughout the evening thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the Mt. Pleasant Community. Food choices for the night will include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats, hot dogs, tacos, and nachos along with a variety of drinks and snacks.
Admission to this event will cost $5 for those school-age and older.
