MT. PLEASANT — Monday night the Mt. Pleasant Community School Board unanimously approved the 2024-2025 district calendar including a weeklong spring break in March.
MPCSD Superintendent John Henriksen stated that putting the calendar together “has been quite the process,” as they struggled with the school start date combined with Old Threshers and winter holidays falling in the middle of the week.
“I appreciate everybody who has given input into the calendar for next year,” Henriksen said.
According to Henriksen, a calendar committee which includes teachers from each of the MPCSD buildings, played an important role giving input as the district worked to create next school year’s calendar.
“I think we finally landed on a calendar that everybody this is going to work well for the students and for the educators,” Henriksen commented.
The approved calendar includes 175 scheduled days with 1,096.25 hours in the classroom including parent teacher conference hours.
Teachers will report for professional development beginning Aug. 13 and students will start Friday, Aug. 23 with a full day of school. While the first Friday of the year will be a full day, nearly all other Fridays throughout the year will remain as early outs.
As usual, the calendar allows time off for the Old Threshers Reunion with an early out on Aug. 28 for the Harvest Day Parade followed by vacation the rest of the week.
Thanksgiving break will remain the same with the Wednesday before and Friday following the holiday as vacation days. Winter break will begin Monday, Dec. 23 with teachers returning Friday, Jan. 3 for professional development and students returning Monday, Jan. 6.
While Henriksen did not initially know if the calendar would allow for a weeklong spring break, the one approved by the board this week does include a full week of no school March 17-21.
Barring extreme weather requiring makeup days, the 2024-2025 school year will end on Thursday, May 29.
