MPCSD candidate forums scheduled this month
All school board positions are up for election in light of recent redistricting

MT. PLEASANT — The public will have two opportunities to meet and learn about candidates for the Mt. Pleasant Community School Board on Oct. 25 and Oct 30.
Due to redistricting all seven board member seats will be up for election Nov. 7 and these forums will offer an opportunity for the candidates to present themselves to the voting public.
Three candidates, Mike Hampton. Angie Blint, and Sandra Millard, will appear on the ballots for the two at-large four-year positions.
Kevin Schrader and Josh Maher will appear on the ballot for the single two-year at-large position on the board and Sarah Donnolly and Danny Graber will be choices on the ballot for the single four-year District 2 seat.
Melinda Huisinga, Aaron Williamson and Derek Mullin will run uncontested for District 1’s two-year, District 1’s four-year, and District 2’s two-year seats respectively.
According to MPCSD Superintendent John Henriksen, the candidates will participate in a forum hosted by KILJ Oct. 25 and one hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance the following week.
KILJ will host their Meet the Candidates night will be held on air beginning at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 25 and consist of candidates answering a variety of questions to better understand why they are running for their desired positions.
Only those in contested races will participate in the KILJ event.
The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates through Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. to news@kilj.com
According to Henriksen, Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce’s candidate forum will be held Oct. 30 in the high school media center at 6 p.m. and moderated by Chamber Executive Vice President Rachel Lindeen.
