MPHS speech team looks to individual season

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant High School’s speech team turns their attention to the individual speech season following a division II rating at District Competition.

“I took a group of four to Large Group District competition,” Speech Coach Jessi Rich said. “It was completely out of the norm for me as we only competed in Readers Theatre.”

“We did a challenging 25 minute script and although we received positive feedback we received only a ll rating,” she said.

Without a division I rating, the group will not move forward in the competitions.

The team consisted of Sarai Sanchez, Izabelle Mathews, Nefi Sanchez, Madison Haalboom.

Sarai Sanchez and Madison Haalboom competed for the first time.

“My team has now fully turned their attention to Individual competition,” Rich said.

The Iowa High School Speech Association’s individual districts competitions are set for Feb. 25 throughout the state.
