The Mt. Pleasant City Council met in regular session Wednesday.
A proposed ordinance to increase solid waste charges by 10 cents was approved.
According to board member Kent White, the Madison Street project’s accepted bid was 36% higher than expected.
“Taxes are going to be up so we have funds to do this project,” Mayor Steve Brimhall said lightheartedly as the board shushed him in unison.
A Board of Adjustments member was removed.
According to Brimhall, the board member Decon Larsh had moved out of town and the Adjustment Board already voted to remove him.
A new metal roof for the public works shop was approved with an approximate budget of $12,700.
Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield was approved for renewal as city health insurance.
The council approved the hiring of a public works laborer.
An ordinance to trap, neuter, and release was read for the first time.
“It’s not going to cost the city anything,” said board member Terry McWilliams.
A proposal for a driveway widening ordinance was read for the fist time, also.
The planning and zoning commission ordinance committee recommended the ordinance which would allow residents to add parking pads to their drive ways as long as they were not in front of the house.
The street entrance of driveways would not be widened.
Salary for seasonal and part time workers was approved.
The Mt. Pleasant City Council will meet again in regular session Wednesday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m.
