MT. PLEASANT — Wednesday evening the Mt. Pleasant City Council took care of business.
The council agreed for the Mayor to sign a conflict of interest waiver which would allow the city to work with the schools on a roads project.
The council also gave permission to apply for a grant to replace a leaky roof at the airport.
“It has holes in it that leak,” Steve Engberg said. “We know there are quite a few grants available to fund projects for airports. We just needed to approve applying for one.”
The fire station will receive a much needed update to their 35 year-old floors and a new suppression system thanks to the agreement of the city council.
Additionally, the utilities department continues making progress as they drill a new well, which will eventually be surrounded by a new park.
“Financially we’re in great shape,” Engberg said. “We didn’t raise taxes again.”
Millions of dollars were discussed at the city council meeting.
After research concerning interest rates and lender options the council agreed to taking out an obligation capital loan of 2 million dollars.
The loan will be used for continuing street projects.
The meeting was brief and without significant changes for the Mt. Pleasant community.
