MT. PLEASANT — In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, Henry County Historical Preservation Society and Main Street Mt. Pleasant once again invite the public to put their best skills of observation to use as they explore downtown Mt. Pleasant in search of architectural elements.
As the sunshiny weather beckons people back outside, they can spend that time examining the architecture in downtown Mt. Pleasant. They could even win the $100 Chamber Bucks grand prize for the 2024 Mt. Pleasant Downtown Architectural Scavenger Hunt through May 30 thanks in part to Southeast Iowa Realty and Wilson Distributor Service partnering with HCHPS and Main Street once again.
How does it work?
Interested people can pick up an entry form from Southeast Iowa Realty. If you stop by after hours, some entries will be available in a clear sleeve on the front window.
Each entry sheet will contact photos of 14 architectural elements found within a two-block radius of the downtown square and are visible from the street. In the blank below each photo, fill in the building or address and return the completed entry to Southeast Iowa Realty in person or in the black mailbox by the front door by May 30.
Entries with correct answers will be entered into a grand prize drawing for $100 in chamber bucks. All other entries will go into a random drawing for four $25 chamber bucks.
Last year, Darcie Woodruff’s keen eye for details landed her the very first grand prize win in the scavenger hunt. Diane and Marvin May, Ted Mountz, Will Jensen, and Steve Ruby not only enjoyed the event last year, but also walked away with $25 in chamber bucks.
