MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Fire Department resolved multiple fires within the last week in the Mt. Pleasant area without any reported injuries.
According to Eastern Iowa Firegrounds, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Mt. Pleasant Motors on East Washington Street the evening of Wednesday, June 12.
Reports state that the fire began when a vehicle caught on fire as staff performed work on it. The fire quickly spread from the vehicle to the building, however, MPFD’s quick response from their weekly Wednesday evening meeting made a difference.
Emergency crews contained the fire to only the auto shop side of the building and reported controlling the fire within approximately five minutes.
No injuries were reported in the fire, though, the business will need to spend time on cleanup before resuming all normal business practice.
Just two days before this fire, MPFD and HCSO responded to another call for a structure fire on just after 6 p.m., Monday, June 10. Reports stated that a woman in a wheelchair was stuck inside a mobile home located in the Green Valley mobile Home Court area.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a woman in a wheelchair was stuck inside the structure. When Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office arrives at the scene, all occupants were removed from the mobile home and the fire was determined no longer active.
A news release from HCSO states that the fire was caused by a gas stove.
Most recently, MPFD responded to a simple fire alarm around 1 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Pilot truck stop on North Grand Avenue. No injuries were reported. One employee of the establishment reported the alarm sounded due to an air conditioning unit attempting to catch fire.
