OTTUMWA — The Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 43-29 victory at Ottumwa on Monday night.
The Panthers bolted to an early lead in the first quarter, leading 14-9. Ottumwa fought back in the second, taking back the lead at the halftime whistle, 23-22. The Panthers allowed the Bulldogs to score 14 points in the second quarter.
Mt. Pleasant held control on the defensive end throughout the majority of the contest. The Bulldogs only scored 15 points over the course of three quarters, besides their 14 point second quarter.
In the third, the Panthers retook the lead, 32-29, allowing just 6 points to their 10.
Ottumwa did not have an answer for Mt. Pleasant in the fourth. The Panthers didn’t allow a single bucket in the fourth quarter, solidifying their victory.
The Panthers were led by juniors Andrea Lopreato and Tristian Shull. Both combined for 36 points, 18 apiece. Lopreato finished with double-double. She had 11 rebounds and 4 steals.
Elsie Lange added 5 points and Jadan Brumbaugh finished with 2.
