AMES — Mt. Pleasant Community High School graduate Bryce Wilson is one of 30 first-year students at Iowa State University to receive a $1,000 scholarship thanks to his participation in the 2023-24 President’s Leadership Class.
Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen invited Wilson, a chemical engineering major, to participate in the program along with 39 other first-year students based on their high school leadership experience, academic achievements, and involvement in school and community service.
According to Iowa State University News Service Director Angie Hunt, “the President's Leadership Class builds on these abilities and experiences, serving as an important training ground for students who will go on to become campus leaders; and ultimately, leaders in their professions and communities.”
This class consisted of meeting at The Knoll, the president’s residence, weekly to discuss a variety of topics related to leadership with Wintersteen and her husband Robert Waggoner along with other key leaders. Students like Wilson participating in the program also receive a $1,000 scholarship.
