MT. PLEASANT — It’s that time of year again, teachers and families are preparing for a new school year. Take some time to get to know the newest teachers to the area.
Emily Lucie
Mt. Pleasant High School welcomes Emily Lucie as a new English/language arts teacher.
Lucie is excited for this position because she has a love for language arts and reading and wants to pass that passion on to her students.
She grew up in Basco, Illinois with her farmer father Steve, teacher mother Jennifer, and two older brothers, Jack and Will.
“I’m so excited to be a part of the Mount Pleasant school district and community as a whole!” she said.
About Lucie, the English teacher
Do you have a specific teaching philosophy?
I approach my job with the idea that I have the opportunity to learn from my students every day just as much as they will learn from me.
Do you have intentional ways you plan to create and maintain positive interactions with students?
One way I plan to create and maintain positive interactions with students is by connecting with them through their extracurricular activities and interests.
I plan on attending as many Panther events as possible!
Has there been a teacher that inspired you either as a student or as a school professional?
My cooperating teacher during student teaching really inspired me.
She instilled a lot of confidence in me as an educator, and I admire how well she connects with her students and advocates for them.
About Lucie’s life outside of school
What are some pets you’ve had or would like to own?
My family has 2 Australian shepherds on our farm in Basco, but now I would really like to get a cat.
How do you spend your summer breaks?
I like to spend my summers spending a lot of time outside, traveling as much as possible, and reading.
A day at school with Lucie
What makes a ‘good day’ at school?
A ‘good day’ at school is a day when I’m all caught up, and my students not only learn something but have fun while doing so.
What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class?
My morning routine consists of a lot of coffee, a good breakfast, and jamming to my favorite music to get excited for the day.
How Lucie connects with students
If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Don’t rush life! It already passes by so quickly, so take your time and enjoy the small moments.
What’s a school sport or activity you enjoy watching?
My favorite sports to watch are cross country and wrestling.
Just for Kicks
What is your first memory from school?
My first memory is from Pre-K.
My mom was my preschool teacher, so I was excited to get to play with her in a new place!
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
Any Man of Mine by Shania Twain
