MT PLEASANT — Imagination is a powerful thing, and on a sunny, but windy summer morning imaginations served Mt. Pleasant children well.
Wednesday, approximately 30 children gathered at East Lake Park to enjoy s'mores with Mt. Pleasant Public Library Children’s Assistant Tia Scheitlin.
Scheitlin lead the youngsters in a craft making pretend campfires with toilet paper roll tubes and red, orange, and yellow sulfone.
The children arranged their tubes in triangular shapes and added the colored pieces to the ends.
While the plan was to actually roast marshmallows over a grill that is available for public use at East Lake Park, the wind made that a difficult task.
Rolling with the punches like a champ, Scheitlin encouraged her young friends to use their imaginations to roast their marshmallows on their fresh constructed campfires.
Turns out, children do not mind if their marshmallows are really roasted or just pretend, as long as they get to eat them.
Scheitlin had a similar positive outlook on the event.
“What more can you ask for, a playground, snacks, and a nice day?” Scheitlin said.
These sentiments were confirmed for the children when 6-year-old Joshua Kreutner said that his favorite part was eating the s'mores, and 3-year-old Kevan Zechin stated his favorite part was making his campfire.
The library will continue to help the community make these fun memories throughout the summer.
