MT. PLEASANT — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mt. Pleasant man after a search warrant led to the discovery of more than a quarter kilogram of methamphetamine.
According to a press release from Sheriff Rich McNamee, deputies executed two search warrants in Mt. Pleasant on Sept. 22 following a lengthy drug investigation assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force.
Court documents show that officers searched the residence of 58-year-old Bobby D. Skaggs where they located a lockbox containing approximately 273 grams of methamphetamine, a scale with white residue, packaging materials, and a large amount of U.S. currency. A spoon and measuring cup were also seized.
Investigators said Skaggs claimed the meth was for personal use, but authorities noted that the quantity and paraphernalia were inconsistent with that claim and indicative of drug distribution. No Iowa drug tax stamp was found on the packaging.
Skaggs was charged with Drug Tax Stamp Violation under Iowa Code 453B.12 and Drug Trafficking 5GM — 100 kg Methamphetamine under Iowa Code 124.401(1)(b) (7). He was taken into custody and booked into jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
