MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Community High School will host the 31st annual Music in Motion Show Choir Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8 and the MPCSD Music Department is calling on volunteers to help make the event a success.
Music in Motion brings show choirs from across the region to compete in a full-day invitational, showcasing the dedication and talent of student performers. Eighteen groups will perform this year, bringing hundreds of students, directors and supporters to Mt. Pleasant. The event highlights musical talent while serving as a vital fundraiser for the district’s music programs, supporting high school and middle school show choirs, the marching band, jazz band and other music-related activities.
Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the large-scale event running smoothly. The music department recently posted an urgent call for help on its Facebook page, stating that many roles still need to be filled, including concessions, ticket taking and kitchen assistance. Volunteers are essential for preparing food, helping guests navigate the venue and assisting with setup and cleanup.
Music in Motion has been a staple in the Mt. Pleasant community for over three decades, consistently bringing in top-tier show choirs and fostering a love for the performing arts. The invitational has been praised in past years as a “huge success” for both the performers and the local community. Events like this not only give students an opportunity to showcase their talent but also provide an economic boost to the area as visitors frequent local businesses.
For the music department, the success of the event hinges on community involvement. Volunteers not only help with logistics but also contribute directly to the future of music education in Mt. Pleasant. Music in Motion raises funds to cover travel costs, purchase new equipment and provide students with learning opportunities throughout the year.
"This event is a massive undertaking, and we truly rely on the help of our amazing community members," the Mt. Pleasant Music Department posted on Facebook. "Even if you’ve never volunteered before, there are plenty of people who will show you everything you need to know."
One of the incentives for volunteering is free admission to the event for those who work two shifts, allowing them to enjoy the performances while giving back. For many, this is a unique chance to witness the passion and dedication of young musicians up close.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up through links posted on the Mt. Pleasant Music Department’s Facebook page. Volunteers do not need prior experience, as experienced coordinators will provide guidance. The department encourages people to sign up with a friend and make the experience both fun and rewarding.
For community members who may not be able to donate their time, there are also opportunities to contribute through food and supply donations, which will help provide meals and snacks for performers and attendees throughout the day.
With Music in Motion just days away, the music department hopes to rally the community in support of this event, ensuring that students have the best possible experience while continuing to grow and develop their musical talents. Those who wish to sign up or learn more can visit the Mt. Pleasant Music Department’s Facebook page.
