MT. PLEASANT — The Moose Lodge, Iowa State Extension Office of Henry County, and Main Street will each offer an opportunities to get out and about next Thursday, Feb. 23.
Over the lunch hour, Iowa State Extension Office will offer “Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts.”
This class is designed to help navigate how to respond when someone hears a hurtful biased or demeaning statement. Additionally, the class will offer insight for when you might be the offending party.
According to the Extension Office, “The workshop, based on the book by Leslie C. Aguilar, will help participants understand the impact of stereotypes and biased statements, identify the most common reasons people sit silently in the face of bias and stereotypes, and enhance skills for speaking up against stereotypes”
Attendees for this Extension Office class will enjoy a light lunch as they begin to delve into the topic from 12-1:30 p.m.
Beginning at 5 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003 will hold their annual Meat Raffle, also known as a Feather Party.
The Feather Party will offer raffles of turkeys, hams, bacon, and a large meat bundle along with a raffle table.
Once they have raffled off the meat, attendees can enjoy a night of live music from Jen Handling and Revolution Band from 8-11 p.m.
Additionally, Main Street Mt. Pleasant will host their annual Wine About Winter Truffle Shuffle from 5:30-8 p.m. in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
The event will begin at the Union Block where participants will pick up a truffle box to take around to participating local businesses.
“Each February, a collection of businesses in Mount Pleasant’s Main Street district invite the public to sample wines and sweets. So, when winter is getting you down, head down to Mount Pleasant’s Main Street and ‘wine’ a bit,” Main Street Mt. Pleasant describes the event.
Purchase tickets for the Wine About Winter event via a link posted to the Main Street Mt. Pleasant Facebook page or by contacting Main Street at (319) 385-1629.
