MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Evening Rotarian Larry Brenizer received recognition as a 2023 Guardian of Integrity with the Rotary International District 6000 at a ceremony in Coralville.
According to the District 6000’s Vocational Service Committee chair Bill Tubbs, “This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions that foster the development of integrity.”
“The award honors individuals who have made contributions in business, media, academia or government and who have, by their actions, writing, policies and public pronouncements strengthened and fostered development of integrity and ethical practices—and who have made sacrifices and/or undertaken ricks to uphold Rotary’s Core Value of Integrity,” he described the award.
According to Mt. Pleasant Rotary and the district’s Vocational Service team, Brenzier fulfills these requirements.
Brenzier’s major contributions to his community come from his time spent as an industrial arts teacher with Mt. Pleasant Community High School and bleed into other facets of community involvement.
“The community will tell you about the Building Trades Class that Larry initiated in which students learned to construct a house from start to finish, setting them up with lifetime skills,” Brenzier’s nomination describes. “Naturally, his expertise is enormously valuable to the Henry County Habitat for Humanity Board.”
Brenzier’s involvement with Mt. Pleasant Evening rotary includes time spent as club president, helping clean highways, delivering Meals on Wheels, and working the annual barbeque fundraiser.
Brenzier also exhibits the value of integrity as he has brought the club in to participate in some of his favorite projects like Old Threshers Reunion and the Festival of Lights.
With his selection, Brenzier was selected as one of 11 and received his award at the Radisson on April 22, and joined the 114 other Rotarians nominated for this award over the programs first 12 years.
