Mt. Pleasant seeks to appoint new councilperson
City accepting resumes from interested individuals to fill Ward 4 seat

MT. PLEASANT — The City of Mt. Pleasant is currently accepting applications to fill the Ward 4 Mt. Pleasant City Council seat vacated by Councilperson Jeff Batty last month.
The city intends to fill the vacancy by appointment at the Wednesday, May 22 city council meeting.
Eligible electors of Ward 4 of the City of Mt. Pleasant interested in being appointed should submit a resume and cover letter to the City Clerk’s Office by 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.
According to Code of Iowa Section 39.27, eligible electors must be a resident of Mt. Pleasant and Ward 4 at the time of appointment. Additionally, according to the Iowa Secretary of State, they must be at least 18 years old and cannot be a convicted felon, claim the right to vote in any other place, or be currently judged incompetent to vote by a court.
“A person appointed to fill a council vacancy serves until the next city election, unless there is an intervening special election for that city,” the Iowa League of Cities states.
