LETTS — A Mt. Pleasant Junior and longtime FFA member now holds the office of South Sub-District Vice President following FFA District Convention earlier this month.
Held at Louisa-Muscatine High School, MPCHS FFA students fared well overall at the district convention as they returned home with numerous silver ratings, a gold rating, two delegates, and the newest South Sub-District Vice President, Ethan Graber.
Graber will serve the Southeast District as South Vice President alongside an officer team consisting of students from Sigourney, North Scott, Calamus Wheatland, and Cedar Rapids Prairie for the 2024-25 year.
According to the Iowa FFA Association, “District officers are juniors or seniors in high school. The President of the district officer team is the State Vice President from their respective district (for example, the North Central State Vice President is the North Central District President).”
As the South Sub-District Vice President, Graber will work alongside the North East VP and North West VP performing the following duties:
•Organizing and facilitating Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) in the Summer
•Organizing and facilitating Greenhand Fire-Up (GFU) in Fall
•Developing and supporting Districtwide Events
•Conducting District Convention in March
•Many other activities throughout the year
But the Iowa FFA association won’t just throw these students in feet first. Not only has their time in FFA helped prepare them for these roles, but the organization also offers trainings throughout the year for district offers. Through these trainings the officers will further learn how to perform and operate in an effective way that allows them to enjoy their new roles.
Jacie Campbell also ran for an officer position at districts but was not selected. She, however, did not walk away empty-handed as she received silver ratings for both public speaking and her reporter’s scrapbook.
Hayliegh McPherson and Briar Bender earned spots as delegates, as well.
Other accomplishments for the Mt. Pleasant FFA chapter at districts including the following receiving silver ratings: Zenlynn Lee in Farm Business Management, Ethan Graber in AG Sales, Caden Mullin for the chapter website, Jaxsen Stuecker for his chapter test, and Merrick Lamm for GreenHand.
Bronze ratings also went to the following students: Deklin Wiseman for GreenHand, Kelsey Coleman, Jenna Schwartz and Kaylen Hunold for chapter tests, and Carter Westfall, Keegan Heaton, Grayson Lowery, Colton Zurmuehlen, and Owen Lord for AG. Issues.
