MT. PLEASANT — From show choir and jazz band competitions to the Almost All Choral Night, over the last week the musical talent of Mt. Pleasant Community School District students was on full display.
Starting Thursday, Feb. 22, Mt. Pleasant Middle and High School Jazz bands showed off their skills at the Coe College Jazz Summit in Cedar Rapids.
Under the direction of Laura Westfall, MPCSD’s Jazz 2 band earned third place in the Class 3A Second Bands division of the competition. Additionally, MPCMS seventh and eight grade jazz band member Jack Henriksen received one of five Honorable Mention Performer recognition at Coe College.
Noteworthy performances continued for MPCSD’s music department as the high school show choir InMotion came home with top placements at the 2024 Central Lee Central Connections Invitational.
According to Mt. Pleasant’s Music Department, InMotion placed second in their 3A division with the second highest score out of all groups and classes throughout Central Lee’s daytime competition.
As InMotion went into the evening portion of the invitational they continued to bring high energy performances and walked away with not only Best Vocals but also Grand Champions in the finals.
InMotion then showed off their musical prowess Monday night in Mt. Pleasant at the school district’s Almost All Choral Night alongside the middle school show choir Chain Reaction and other Mt. Pleasant middle and high school choirs.
Both show choirs will next perform in Fort Madison, Saturday, March 2. Chain Reaction will perform in the middle school division at 9:20 a.m. followed later by InMotion at 2:40 p.m.
