MT. PLEASANT -- If there's one thing for certain, it's that Jadan Brumbaugh has dominated at her craft, shot put.
The 2021 Class 3A Shot Put State Champion and Drake Relays Champion made her college selection Tuesday afternoon at Mt. Pleasant High School, signing her letter of intent to Iowa State University.
Brumbaugh said her decision revolved around the atmosphere and feeling she got during her campus visit.
"I really like the atmosphere and the team," Brumbaugh said. "They're all very together and always caring for one another. I liked the atmosphere of the school and just hanging out with the team when I got a chance to."
Aside from being a state champion and a Drake Relays champion, Brumbaugh was also the number 52 ranked U.S. high-schooler in shot put in 2021.
She always had the goal of reaching the next level.
"It's always been a goal," Brumbaugh said. "It was more of a goal last year to make it to college. I'm excited about the decision I made."
Mt. Pleasant has had a long line of successful track stars, especially in shot put. Brumbaugh has her name near the top of the list.
Brumbaugh says she hopes to continue having the same environment at Iowa State as in Mt. Pleasant. She says support from the team, her friends and the school has always been important.
She dedicated her development and success to her throwing coach Shawn Striegel.
"He's always a really important aspect in my life," Brumbaugh said. "He's always been there when I needed him, not just for throwing. Like if I have something going on in my life, he knows there's something wrong. It's always nice for him to help me with that, even as a coach."
