MT. PLEASANT — Music filled downtown Mt. Pleasant as Music on Main drew a pre-pandemic sized crowd Friday evening.
“We’re back to normal,” Main Street Mount Pleasant Director Lisa Oetken said. “It went amazing a lot of people came out.”
The Boys took the stage throughout the evening playing country and older rock songs, some people danced, others blue bubbles from their lawn chairs, and children ran from bouncy house to bouncy house.
Laughter mixed with the music as families enjoyed time together.
Local businesses set up tables with goodies and activities to entertain children and a cornhole tournament occupied six teams of people.
The Henry County Cattlemen contributed summer smells with the assistance of the Henry County Pork Producers.
The Norman Rockwell and Mayberry vibes, which were abundantly apparent during the concerts in the park, provided by the community band, were fully present during this event as well.
"It really was great to see all of the families out and people enjoying the night,“ Oetken said.
One mother commented that Central Park is the perfect place for these events, because even though it was incredibly hot, the shade of the trees and the fountain cool the space down considerably.
Oetken attributes the success of the event to the FFA volunteers who were a lot of the muscle carrying things from the Main Street office to the park.
According to Oetken, this community always comes together to put on sweet family-friendly events like this.
“It’s just a great community and they really pitch in,” Oetken said.
She even pointed out that the Mayor was present selling tickets throughout the evening.
The next small-town charm event to hit Mt. Pleasant is the Farm-to-table dinner in Central Park August 6.
