MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Board of Supervisors approved a $772,000 bid for a bridge replacement project at their Thursday, June 27 meeting.
“I’m encouraged to see six contractors bid on a job,” Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss told the supervisors as he opened bids for the replacement of the bridge on Nebraska Avenue. “Its good to see competition from our perspective.”
The board of supervisors approved the bid by Iowa Bridge and Culvert from Washington, Iowa for approximately $772,000 to complete this project.
While Hotchkiss was pleased with multiple bids for the bridge project, that was not the case as he opened fuel bids for FY25. According to Hotchkiss, the department reached out to five companies for bids but only received one from Cobb Oil Company. Hotchkiss stated that gasoline prices will remain the same as the department’s last contract, but diesel prices will nearly double.
This contract is good for one year with an option for a year renewal. The supervisors plan to approve the contract at their new meeting Wednesday, July 3 after clarification on additive pricing.
Hotchkiss also reported that W55 will be closed from 275th Street north to 260th Street for an additional two weeks due to construction.
