WINFIELD — Early Thursday morning, even before the sun peaked over the horizon, Winfield residents witnessed another fire just down the street from the wreckage of the two-story brick home destroyed by fire only 12 days earlier on the same street.
While the cause for the fire earlier in the month was quickly determined, an investigation continues as authorities look into the cause of the second fire on North Olive Street the morning of Thursday, Nov. 30.
According to Winfield Fire Department Chief Josh Sparrow, crews responded to reports of a garage fire at 401 N. Olive Street around 6 a.m.
Sparrow stated that the structure was unoccupied when flames erupted and there were no injuries as a result.
Winfield Fire and Rescue was assisted by Olds Fire Department as it put out the fire.
When reports of an electrical pole on fire came in, Alliant Energy also responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains “undetermined at this point,” Sparrow said later Thursday morning. However, he also said they were pursuing possible leads.
