WINFIELD — As the last days of summer approach, Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District prepares to welcome students back to their classrooms later this month.
WMU High School juniors and seniors can begin the year with a new tradition: parking spot painting. For $20 students can select a parking spot, with first choice going to seniors, that they can then decorate Aug. 19-20. Painters can begin at noon each day.
Parking spot designs must be approved by Aug. 16. By Jill Townsley or Shawna McCabe.
Those with approved designs should bring their own supplies. Townsley and McCabe suggest the following:
Broom, rake, and/or leaf blower to clear debris from parking spot
Lawn chairs and a canopy for shade
Painter tape to cover parking lines or help with design
Towel or gardening cushion to kneel on while decorating
Hula-Hoop for drawing large circles
Trash bag for clean up
Camera for pictures
Water and snacks
Bluetooth speaker
For additional information reach out via email or phone jill.townsley@wmucsd.org (319) 260-5335 or Shawna.mccabe@wmuscd.org (319) 931-1601.
Elementary students can prepare themselves for the 2024-2025 school year by attending the long-standing tradition of Back to School Night. They may drop off their backpacks Aug. 21 from 5-6 p.m.
WMU athletes will then continue the kick off the new year with the Big Red Pride Meet the Players. Fellow students and the community are invited to the beginning at 6:30 p.m. which will kick start the year’s school pride.
A pork loin supper with drink and chips will be available for purchase at this event.
