The New London nonprofit organization Dollars for Scholars held its annual auction on Saturday evening.
Hundreds of people turned up to bid on the plethora of items the auction had to offer, which is used to raise money for scholarships that New London High School graduates can apply for and to increase the organizations endowment fund for future graduates.
Carolee Benz, who is a part of the organization said that she is proud of the continued support from the community.
“I am very proud of the community support for all aspects of the auction,” Benz said. “It’s very rewarding to be part of the Dollars for Scholars committee. We have an awesome committee that works really well together to be able to put the Auction in motion. We’re are proud to be able to give every graduating senior a scholarship.”
Students are able to apply on the New London Dollars for Scholars website and they can receive the scholarship up to four times in a 10 year span.
Before the bidding started, attendees were given tacos dinner.
Items included in the auction ranged from gift certificates, outdoor furniture, chairs, tools, toys, games, gift baskets, book shelves, a fire pit, a lawn mower, and food.
Along with the bidding, there were also numerous tables that featured smaller silent auction items.
Benz said that it’s all for the kids and their futures.
“It’s great to know that we’re helping students with their college expenses,” she said.
