NEW LONDON — With a winter storm rolling into the area early Wednesday, Feb. 12, the City of New London has issued a reminder about its designated Snow Emergency Routes, urging residents to take necessary precautions to avoid vehicle towing and ensure safe passage for plows and emergency vehicles.
In a Facebook post ahead of the storm, the city warned that vehicles parked on the designated snow routes during snow, freezing rain, or sleet would be towed at the owner’s expense. The city also encouraged residents to spread the word to family, friends, and neighbors living on affected streets.
The Snow Emergency Routes in New London include:
- Adams Street
- Chestnut Street
- Cleveland Street
- Elm Street
- Madison Street
- Main Street
- Pine Street
- Thompson Street
- Walnut Street
Under Ordinance No. 60, which amends Chapter 69 of the city’s parking regulations, parking is prohibited on these streets whenever at least one inch of snow, sleet, or freezing rain is forecast or occurs. Special signs are posted on each designated route to notify drivers of the restriction. Normal parking may resume once the weather event has passed and streets have been cleared.
An exception allows for parking on Main Street, between Elm Street and Maple Street, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., regardless of snowfall amounts.
Violators of the snow emergency parking rules will have their vehicles subject to impoundment as outlined in the city’s code of ordinances.
For more information, residents can refer to the full ordinance on the City of New London’s website at www.newlondoniowa.org/code-of-ordinances.
