NEW LONDON — At the end of the month, New London Community School District will host an immersive event that brings the realities of prom season to life for students: Operation Prom.
High school students will have the opportunity to witness a simulated reality of what happens at an accident scene.
“Some of the material may be graphic in nature since it will be a simulated accident scene,” a letter to parents states.
The event will include a real-life scenario in which students will receive hands-on experience of the potential consequences of risky behaviors as they actively participate in a simulated accident and emergency response.
This will be made possible through the participation of law enforcement, firefighters, medical personnel, life flight crews, and representatives from a funeral home throughout Operation Prom. These professional will be on-site to interact with and guide students through the scenario.
“The training will focus on smart decision-making, safety, and understanding the consequences of choices made during celebratory events,” the letter to parents explains.
According to the letter about the event released from the school district, Operation Prom is an opportunity to go beyond textbooks to create awareness and foster responsible decision-making for high school students during prom season.
With this in mind, the district encourages parents to support their student’s participation in Operation Prom and to use the event as an opportunity to open conversations about the importance of responsible choices and safety.
