MT. PLEASANT — Over Labor Day weekend, new signs went up on the former Iowa Wesleyan University campus. Just over a year after the university closed its doors, the black, gold, and purple sign has been replaced with the maroon and gold colors of Mt. Pleasant Community School District.
In June, MPCSD approved a bid for new signage to mark its ownership of the former central campus for the historic university. Board President Angie Blint hoped, at that time, that the new signs would be placed before RAGBRAI came through Mt. Pleasant at the end of July.
Blint stated that she noticed the removal of signs beginning that month, but the first glimpses of new signs came this weekend with the replacement of the monument signs on either end of central campus.
The total estimate for replacing all the signage including the monument signs, vinyl decals, and an illuminated “MP” came in at $21,098 from Sherwood out of West Burlington.
