MT. PLEASANT — This Sunday, April 23, not only will Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra (SEISO) perform Stravinsky's Rite of Spring at 6:30 p.m. in the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel Auditorium, but one lucky concertgoer will also will $1,200.
The SEISO will perform their final Masterworks Series of the season, Spring Footprints at two other locations over the weekend, and will end the series at Iowa Wesleyan.
As the orchestra performs with their largest ensemble in their 72 years of history, they’ve set a lofty goal to beat their attendance record of 1200 attendees in a series. Attendees will obtain additional details for this incentivizing give away at the concert.
To help obtain this goal, they will select one adult concertgoer to receive $1,200, but SEISO Conductor and Music Director Robert McConnell says the experience is well worth the time whether you win the money or not.
“These concerts are typically more fun and interesting than most orchestral concerts, introducing music and guest artists in a more personal manner,” he said. “We are presenting Violist Artist-in-Residence Dominique Archambeau in the first half and the legendary Rite of Spring — the work that precipitated a riot and arrests at its controversial premier.”
According to McConnell, the evening will consist of Air on the G String, Song of Spring, Viola Concerto in G Minor, and The Rite of Spring.
Additionally, McConnell will take this opportunity to dedicate the Air on the G String in honor of SEISO longtime principal cellist Donna Nelson who recently passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.
Tickets are available for purchase at www.seiso.us or at the door, but guests are encouraged to arrive early as seating is first come first serve.
Doors will open one hour before showtime and McConnel will speak out about the program in depth in a Prelude 45 minutes prior to curtain.
Those that cannot attend the Mt. Pleasant show Sunday evening can catch the concert at the Capitol Theater in Burlington at 7:30 Saturday, April 22 or at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
