MT. PLEASANT — Updates are coming to the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport after Mt. Pleasant City Council approved signing a contract with Jim Barton Construction Services for work on the Airport Box Hangar Door Project and the T-hangar Roof Project.
After entering an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for grants to extend the airport’s taxiway add storage space for the apron, and add a new hangar in September, the city council moved ahead with plans to begin hangar updates at the Nov. 13 meeting.
The city will hire Barton Construction specifically to install a hangar door purchased by the city for one of the older hangars at the airport. The council approved the purchase of this 17x50 hydraulic box hangar door from Powerlift Door in Tipton for $33,341. The construction company also will make modifications to structurally to the hangar with this project. The proposal for this project, not including the price of the door, came in at $53,382.40.
Other work performed by Barton Construction will occur in what City Administrator Brent Schleisman believes to be the actual oldest hangar at the airport. The proposal for this project came in at $58,580.
“It is right to the right when you get there,” he said. “It has had leaky roofs for a while and old skylights. It is past its prime and it needs help.”
According to Schleisman Barton Construction was the lowest bidder for projects on both hangars and came in under the city engineer’s estimate.
