MT. PLEASANT — From 6-10 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Fire Department eagerly welcomed the community to their fire station to enjoy their annual pancake breakfast.
Easter weekend kicked off bright and early with the annual Mt. Pleasant Fire Department Breakfast, Saturday.
Even before the sun rose, Saturday morning, firefighters and volunteers with the fire department arrived at the station to prepare for their annual fundraiser.
The fired up the grill, warmed up the griddles, prepared the batter, and began cooking in anticipation of a large crowd filling the station.
“The pancake breakfast was amazing,” a representative from the fire department shared. “It was wonderful to see so many faces from everyone in the community and all that support us.”
With the community Easter Egg hunt beginning right after the breakfast at 10 a.m. in Central Park and many mentions of the events from other community organizations, the department saw a record-breaking amount of people come through their food line.
“So, go over to the pancake breakfast and support the fire department, then come over for the egg hunt,” Main Street Director Lisa Oetken plugged the event at an Alive After Five the Thursday before.
“I hope you make pancakes faster the Kiwanis,” Mayor Steve Brimhall said at the last City Council meeting before the big breakfast event.
Brimhall and the council laughed following his statement due to a knowledge of the Kiwanis holding a successful fundraiser for the school libraries despite a mishap which involved dropping a grill before the event began.
According to the fire department, over 920 people at breakfast with them, Saturday morning, and every hungry tummy fed also filled with gratitude that the department did not endure such a mishap.
They raised funds through their traditional freewill offering and the addition of a silent auction item.
Blazing Burners, LLC donated a pellet grill and Traeger added a bag of pellets for the silent auction.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of electric vehicle safety equipment as the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department continues to serve Mt. Pleasant and the surrounding areas.
