Panther boys suffer loss on opening night
Mt. Pleasant led after one quarter, but Xavier answered back

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Panthers opened their season Tuesday with a loss to Cedar Rapids Xavier, 47-37.
Mt. Pleasant had all the right answers in the first quarter, leading 16-13 at its end.
Xavier began to turn things around, starting in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers in all but the first quarter.
At halftime, Mt. Pleasant trailed by one point, 25-24.
In the third, the Panthers struggled offensively, scoring just 5 points to the Saints 10. They trailed 35-29 at the quarter’s end.
During the fourth quarter, it was much of the same. Xavier outscored Mt. Pleasant 12-8.
Dewon Trent led the Panthers and all scorers with 16 points. Payton Hagans chipped in 9.
Aaiden Ashton finished with 6. Owen Vansickel added 4 and Dylon Hagans scored 2.
Next up, Mt. Pleasant, 0-1, will look to get back to .500 with a trip to Fort Madison on Friday Dec. 3 to take on the Bloodhounds.
