MARION — Mt. Pleasant High School’s Panther Marching Band faced fierce competition over the weekend in Marion. Despite their best efforts, the band brought home seventh place.
While the Panther Marching band did not bring home a top placement, they did tell a cohesive story about dreaming with their “Dare to Dream” program. Their performance featured unique choreography which began with band members temporarily “sleeping” on the job before rising to perform their first song, “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” from Cinderella.
Continuing their musical storytelling, the band seamlessly transitioned into Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’s “Pure Imagination.”
After fully waking from their slumber, the band picked up the pace as they played “Sweet Dreams” made popular by Eurythmics. The choreography continued to pair well with their selections featuring a crescent moon formation as the Panther Marching Band moved their story forward playing “Clair De La Lune,” followed by Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
Sweet bell sounds rang out as the band neared the end of their performance which also featured The Greatest Showman’ s “A Million Dreams.”
Independence, Mt. Vernon and Clear Creek Amana walked away with the top scores in the 3A division.
The Mt. Pleasant Panther Marching Band will continue their season with Homecoming Boom Night, Thursday, Oct. 3 and the Homecoming Parade and football game Friday, Oct. 4. Their next competition is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 12 at the Clark County Parade of Champions in Kahoka Missouri.
