Henry County Halloween activities offer ample options

As October comes to an end, spooky season only just begins in Henry County. Checkout these opportunities in the area to enjoy fall festivals, trick-or-treating, and trunk-or-treats.
Hillsboro
Halloween night residents of Hillsboro are invited to leave on their porch lights for trick-or-treaters knocking on doors from 5-8 p.m. During trick-or-treat Hillsboro Fire Department will serve hot dogs and hot chocolate at the station.
Mt. Pleasant
Witch Way to Main
Main Street Mt. Pleasant will host their annual Witch Way to Main trick-or-treat event Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. everyone is welcome to put on their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat at downtown shops and enjoy games and a costume contest in Central Park.
Wellspring Evangelical Free Church
Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6-8 p.m. Wellspring Evangelical Free Church will host the second annual Fall Festival. The evening will include Trunk-or-Treat, hayrides, games, and a free meal for everyone.
Addington Place
Addington Place of Mt. Pleasant calls all ghouls, goblins, and creatures of the night to stop by their Halloween Spooktacular Friday, Oct. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The evening will include plenty of treats, but no tricks as staff and residents hand out candies, cookies, and other goodies. Addington Place also will offer hot dogs, chips, and drinks that evening.
Hy-Vee
Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee on East Washington Street will host a Trick-or-treat event Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The Hy-Vee team welcomes families to come in their best costumes to enjoy “spooky family fun and activities.”
Arbor Court
Arbor Court invites the public to join their staff and residents for a Trunk or Treat event Sunday, Oct. 27 from 2-4 p.m. Guests are welcome to pop open a trunk and participate in handing out goodies, or simply attend and enjoy the fun. The event will include plenty of candy along with pumpkin painting, games, refreshments, temporary tattoos, hot dogs, and hot chocolate.

Family Connection Halloween Party
Families with at least one child under the age of six are invited to the Family Connection Halloween Party at the ISU Extension and Outreach of Henry County Monday, Oct. 28 from 5:30-7 p.m. The party will kick off with pizza at 5:30 followed by pumpkin painting, Halloween songs with dancing, and other Halloween themed activities. Moose Lodge #1003
Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge will host a Halloween event filled with family fun and safe trick-or-treating. Those attending the event will enjoy candy, caramel apples, chips, and hot dogs.
Citywide
Citywide trick-or-treating in Mt. Pleasant will take place Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.
Mt. Union
Eagle’s Landing Park and the Mt. Union Fire Department will offer plenty of Halloween fun Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. during city-wide Trick-or-Treat.
Trick-or-Treaters can stop by the gazebo at Eagle’s Landing for a cup of hot cider or hot chocolate. They can also grab dinner at the fire department’s annual hot dog roast.
New London
Ray’s Specialty Meats will host a Trunk or Treat Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1-3 p.m.
Halloween Night the New London community will come to life with a variety of activities. City Wide Trick or Treat, City Park Trunk or Treat, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Trunk or Treat will run from 5-7 p.m. New London Lions will also serve hot dogs at City Park beginning at 5 p.m.
Salem
Salem City Council will host a Weenie Roast at the Community Center Oct. 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Trick-or-Treaters are welcome to make their way around town on Halloween night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Salem.
Trenton
The Trenton Angels will dish up hot dogs, chips and drinks at the park shelter Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. while the community comes together setting up trunks for Trunk-or-Treat at the park or handing out candy from their homes around town.
Wayland
Greet and Treat
From 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, local businesses will line Main Street to hand out candy and other goodies as they greet the inevitably large crowd that attends each year. Treaters are invited to dress up for the event in fall attire or costumes. The line for Greet and Treat will begin on the west side of city hall at the stop sign on the corner of Jefferson and Main streets. Each treater will receive a bag provided by the city then released to visit with local businesses up and down Main Street.
Citywide
Those wishing to hand out candy during traditional trick-or-treating can do so from 5:30-7 p.m. Halloween night in Wayland.
Winfield
Presbyterian Church Trunk or Treat
The Winfield Presbyterian Church will kick off Halloween fun in town with a Fall Party Sunday, Oct. 27 from 3:30-5 p.m. The party will include a free hot dog meal, games, activities, and Trunk-or-Treat in the parking lot.
Citywide
On Halloween night the Annual Weiner Roast on the corner of East Pine and South Locust will run from 4:30-6 p.m. The Winfield Lions Club also will sponsor the costume contest from 5-6 p.m. Additionally, the club will bring out the hoops wagon for all to enjoy.
After everyone’s bellies are full, trick-or-treaters can hit the streets to go door to door collecting goodies from 6-9 p.m.
