Police chase suspect through New London
A man fled through fields and fences before taking off on foot

NEW LONDON—Friday, Feb. 17, Joshua Helmick, 41 of Norwalk, led police on a brief chase in New London.
According to a statement from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at approximately 8:13 a.m., however, Helmick fled in his gray Chevy Tahoe.
Officers lost the vehicle for a brief period of time when Helmick left the road, and proceeded to drive through fields.
New London Police found Helmick speeding through New London at approximately 8:16 a.m. and another short chase followed.
Helmick again left the roadway and led the pursuit through fields.
Once Helmick’s vehicle collided with fences, he fled on foot, but police apprehended him shortly.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Helmick with Eluding (class D felony), Interference with Official Acts (serious misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief (aggravated misdemeanor) and Failure to Maintain Control (simple misdemeanor).
Mt. Pleasant Police Department and K9 units assisted New London Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Department in apprehending Helmick.
