MT. PLEASANT — Saturday, July 9 community members are invited to join a Pro-Roe Rally supporting rights to abortion at 4 p.m.
Monday, June 27 a total of 14 concerned individuals met to plan this rally under the leadership of Pamela Bennett and Sarah Goff.
Bennett and Goff had planned their own responses to the overturning of Roe v Wade, however, they quickly opted to join forces.
The rally will gather at the south end of Central Park, then march around the square, followed by gathering at the Belle Babb Mansfield statue on the Iowa Wesleyan University campus where speakers will present perspectives on the topic.
“The rally is intended to emphasize the issue of a woman's autonomy in making health care decisions — in consultation with her physician — about her own body,” event co-organizer Jeff Fager said. “Any attempt to ‘prohibit’ abortion will not end abortion; it would end safe abortions.”
“Women's right have been attacked,” Bennett said. “We as Iowans have to speak up and be heard. This is why it is important to attend the Pro-Roe Rally. Be seen, be heard and know what actions needs to be taken.”
