MT. PLEASANT — Despite the best efforts of children everywhere, the new school year is just around the corner. Thankfully, Henry County Public health chooses to embrace the new school year and help families get ready.
On Aug. 2, Public Health is offering a walk-in immunization clinic from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
All regular immunizations and COVID-19 vaccines are available.
These clinics are especially important for students entering kindergarten, seventh, and 12th grades.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), up-to-date immunizations include Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, Polio, Measles/rubella, hepatitis B, Varicella, and Meningococcal.
A full list of doses and timing can be found on the IDPH website.
Currently, the CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccines for everyone 6 months and older and boosters for everyone 5 years and older.
“Getting children and teens vaccinated against COVID-19 can help keep them from getting really sick if they do get COVID-19,” the IDPH states on their website. “Vaccinating children can also help relieve the strain on families by providing greater confidence in children participating in child care, school, and other activities.”
Even children who have already had COVID-19 are encouraged by IDPH to be vaccinated.
In addition to immunizations, Henry County Public Health will offer free dental, vision, and lead screenings on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 1-6 p.m.
Children going into kindergarten and ninth grade are required to have dental screenings prior to starting school.
