MT. PLEASANT — Main Street Mount Pleasant hosted their annual Cinco De Mayo celebration Thursday complete with commemorative cups, karaoke, chips with dip, and margaritas.
Businesses, regular patrons, and new comers all agree that it is great to have the celebration back in person.
“I always see people I don’t know,” said Main Street Director Lisa Oetkin. “We are exposing the downtown to new people.”
Plenty of new faces were able to explore downtown Mt. Pleasant thanks to the rain holding off for the duration of the event.
A total of 21 businesses around the square took advantage of the surprisingly nice weather and offered fun at every stop.
The Vintage Raven offered not only margaritas and mead, but also plenty of kitty kisses.
The thrift shop located on Jefferson Street has an eclectic selection of items to shop and they foster, rehabilitate and adopt out cats in need of new homes.
For more information on adopting a cat swing by the store or visit The Vintage Raven’s Facebook page.
Other business that participated ranged from boutiques and restaurants to a spa and jewelry store.
Meraki Day Spa owned by Halee Lane was all smiles as she served guests with mangonadas and cranberry salsa.
“Last year was a killer,” Lane said. “We had a huge turn out. There were not as many people this year because of the weather, but still a lot.”
Currently, Meraki stylists Mekenzie Rodibaugh and Kayla Culbertson are offering specials on Brazillian Blow outs and booking appointments now.
This was the first year that Sa3m Sao Market has participated in the Cinco De Mayo celebrations, but they have participated in most other Main Street events previously.
“We set the bar really high with our other events,” Sa3m Sao Market’s Sivome Sithudeth said. “I gotta step up my game for the next one.”
The Cinco De Mayo celebration filled people’s bellies, livers, and hearts as they walked the square with grins stretched across their faces.
