WINFIELD — On Aug. 7, the JR Hewitt Memorial Scholarship fund will hold its annual 50/50 raffle during the Memorial Car Show in Winfield.
Half of the money from the 50/50 raffle will go to the winner, and the other half will go toward the JR Hewitt Scholarship fund.
This scholarship is open to applications from any senior at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
The first scholarship was awarded in May 2019 to Isabella Mertens.
The raffle winner will be announced at the JR Hewitt memorial Car Show, but winners do not need to be present to win.
According to Hewitt’s sister Tami Harzke, he always wanted to give back to his lifelong community of Winfield.
“We feel this is a great way to do something he always wanted to do,” Harzke said.
JR enjoyed cars and took over the car show in Winfield in 2011, but passed away November 2016.
During his time running the car show, though, he was able to grow it from 23 entries to 150 which drew car owners from many other destinations.
Now, Hewitt’s family runs the show and continues to grow it and the scholarship fund in his memory.
Raffle sales for the 2022 scholarship were great enough to provide three total scholarships to Morgan Grelk, Lane Scropil, and Griffin Humphreys.
To support this fund and purchase 50/50 tickets contact Tami Harzke via her personal Facebook or through the JR Hewitt Memorial Car Show page.
