WINFIELD — Wide grins spread from the faces of Winfield-Mt. Union Prom attendees throughout the community Saturday night as the young adults showed off their best prom attire not only at Grand March, but also at Sunrise Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
With prom night comes many traditions such as dressing your best, attending Grand March, taking lots of pictures, eating a nice meal, dancing the night away, and enjoying after-prom activities. Despite a day packed full of activity, many WMU students continued on a tradition of stopping by Sunrise Terrace on prom night.
Among those that stopped by Sunrise Terrace were Prom Queen Aurey Meeker and Kailey Neil, both of whom work at the nursing home as certified nursing assistance when they’re not busy with school and extra curricular activities.
According to Sunrise Terrace Administrator Lindsey Remick, it is a highly anticipated tradition for students that work at Sunrise Terrace or have grandparents at the facility to stop by and show off their prom looks.
“Whether they're in the dietary department, nursing department, housekeeping, they're always really great about coming in on prom day and showing off their dresses and taking photos,” Remick said.
Remick says the residents really enjoy the visits, especially because they usually see the students in their scrubs as they’re working.
“The residents love hearing about all of our school activities and what we are involved in, most of the CNAs have close bonds with the residents,” Meeker said. “They love to see us dressed up! They were super excited to see all of the different dresses. It means a lot to them when we share these moments with them!”
After showing off their duds to the Sunrise Terrace residents and the WMU community, they danced the night away at the Morning Sun Community Center and enjoyed After Prom at the E3 Center in Mt. Pleasant.
