Salem announces spring cleanup

SALEM — Residents of Salem can rid themselves of unwanted items during spring cleanup scheduled for Saturday, May 4.
WEMIGA Waste will collect the following items for spring cleanup, limits listed per household:
Miscellaneous household unwanted items, including two furniture items
One window and one door
Regular household food waste
One carpet rolled and tied in six-foot length
Appliances without food waste or trash inside — washers, dryers, water heaters, refrigerators, air-conditioning units, microwaves, and stoves
Miscellaneous scrap metal items
Up to give gallons of used oil
Dried latex paint, no other chemical waste will be allowed
Residents should keep in mind miscellaneous trash must be bagged or boxed. WEMIGA will not pick up loose trash. Piles cannot exceed eight feet long by eight feet wide by three feet tall.
Television and monitors will require a bulk sticker which residents can purchase from city hall for $30.
Additionally, the City of Salem will allow residents to dispose of up to six tires per house in a container located west of the fire station from 8-11 a.m.
WEMIGA will not accept the following items:
Oil based paint
Chemicals
Concrete, bricks, or ashes
Construction or demolition material
