MT. PLEASANT — A Henry County Sheriff Deputy arrested Samantha Sammons, 33, of Salem following an attempted traffic stop of a vehicle without registration plates.
Deputy Richard Stallman arrested the passenger Sammons for Violation of a No-Contact Order (simple misdemeanor), two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The driver, Adam Warth, 42, of Des Moines, received citations for Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability resulting in $639 in fines.
According to criminal complaints filed with the courts, Stallman observed a 2006 Blue Volkswagen Passat in the 2600-block of Perkins Road without plates.
A news release from the Sheriff’s Office states the deputy identified the driver as a person “known to not possess a valid driver’s license,” and “the driver and passenger have an active No-Contact Order.”
“I believed the passenger to be the defendant, Samantha Sammons,” Stallman wrote in the criminal complaint. “The vehicle accelerated and was located at 2564 Perkins Road.”
Court documents state, “Samantha was found in a small shack next to the vehicle.”
According to Stallman’s reports, Sammons admitted to possessing meth and weed in her purse.
In Stallman’s description of events, he states he found a black eye glass case with a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue and a small piece of plastic tied into a knot to make a small bag.
“In this was a white powder and small crystal substance,” Stallman documented. “The substance field tested positive as methamphetamine.”
Stallman stated he also found “a small blue and purple fuzzy zippered pouch,” which contained a metal cylinder with a “green leafy substance smelling and looking like marijuana.”
According to court documents, the substance weighed approximately 5.15 grams.
Additionally, inside the blue and purple pouch, Stallman states he found a glass pipe with burnt residue, metal tools used for scraping residue from the glass pipes and “an extremely small spoon.”
This incident remains under investigation.
