MT. PLEASANT — The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony at Saunders Park Plaza was well attended at the rescheduled time Tuesday evening.
As part of five community vision projects headed up by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance, the plaza fulfills the identified need to enhance trail systems in the area.
Whiskey Friends created a welcome atmosphere with live music as people enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, and lemonade followed by the dedication and ribbon cutting.
“Saunders Park has been a long time recreational hub of our community,” Meg Richtman said as she drew attention to the trail head and invited Jake Lowe to address the crowd with gratitude for the dedication to his parents Scott and Amy Lowe.
“My parents loved taking walks around town,” he said. “My parents dedicated their time and talents to making this community a better place to live, and it is only fitting for this trail head to be dedicated to them.”
Mayor Steve Brimhall spoke on how the donations from the Lowe family allowed for money to be reallocated to other community vision projects.
“This beautiful park is named for our founding father,” Richtman said and welcomed word from the Henry County Heritage Trust, Pat White.
“This area has been a popular gathering place for over a century,” White said.
“We look forward to assisting with future projects,” she said in conjunction with the Hertiage Trust’s participation in creating the signage for the plaza.
Jake Lowe cut the ribbon, and people continued mingling and enjoying the beautiful evening in Saunders Park.
