MT. PLEASANT — Wednesday evening, Democratic Candidate for District 87 of the Iowa House of Representative Mike Heaton hosted a Southeast Rural Democrat Showcase at Iowa Wesleyan University.
The showcase offered musical performances by LGBTQIA+ Advocate Chris Housman and Top 13 Finalist on season 17 of The Voice and Mt. Pleasant alumna, Cali Wilson.
“I owe a lot to the Mt. Pleasant Music Program” said Wilson, “Mrs. DePriest pushed me to keep singing at every opportunity.”
According to Heaton, the high points of the evening were these performances.
Candidate for Iowa Governor Deidre DeJear, candidate for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District Christina Bohannan, and candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture John Norwood answered questions from moderators.
DeJear delivered a keynote speech which received a standing ovation as the night came to a close.
Through a special collection at the showcase, the Mt. Pleasant Music Boosters received a $500 donation.
