NEW LONDON— New London Specialty Care needs volunteers for the month of February to deliver meals to the community during weekday lunch hours.
Currently, the program needs help with deliveries every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
According to Specialty Care Activity Coordinator Andrea Carlson, through sponsorship by local organizations, like churches and the VFW, commonly cover these deliveries.
The groups will choose a month and arrange volunteers from their communities to make the deliveries.
The month of February, however, does not have an organization sponsor.
“It is a good way to grow community spirit,” Carlson said of the volunteer opportunity. “It is only about a half hour to an hour of their day and they can just volunteer for one or two days, they don’t have to do a bunch.”
Volunteers can choose which days in the month work best for their schedules.
Those interested in volunteering can contact the facility directly at (319) 367-5753, and ask for Andrea if they need additional information.
“We have five or six elderly local New London residents that receive the meals,” Carlson said.
While the nursing home is in the process of bringing on a new Dietary Coordinator, they will still accept requests for meals from elderly in the community.
