MT. PLEASANT — The Storybook Ball Committee announced Monday, March 13 that the fundraising event will look different than previously anticipated.
The committee created the Storybook Ball Fundraiser to raise funds for the Mt. Pleasant Community School Libraries.
Instead of a ball with attendees dressed as their favorite literary characters playing billiards and darts as they sip cocktails and enjoy hors d’oeuvres throughout a silent auction, supporters of Mt. Pleasant Community School District libraries will enjoy a more laid-back open-house style silent auction.
Through whimsical language committee member Carrie Muhs announced:
“Once upon a time, in a far-off land, a magical ball was planned in one of the grandest castles in the kingdom. The ball was an event that most villagers looked forward to, with its beautiful decorations, enchanting music, and elegant attire,” the announcement began.
“Many of the villagers felt that the event was too extravagant and expensive, and the castle owners decided to find a new way to celebrate,” it explained. “After much deliberation, the castle owners and team decided to hold a silent auction open house.”
According to the fairy-tale themed announcement, the committee put considerable thought into making the event more accessible and inclusive with the assistance of event planners.
“They hired expert event planners to design the layout of the castle, transforming it into a gallery-style space, with each room showcasing a different collection of art or antiques,” it stated.
The committee partnered with local businesses and artists to create a diverse silent auction that displays local pride.
The revamped fundraiser will occur Saturday and Sunday March 18-19 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at 907 E. Washington St.
“In the end, we know the silent auction open house will prove to be a huge success,” the committee’s announcement states. “It was a celebration of art, culture, and community, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds.”

“We've got everything from art, jewelry and treasures from local vendors up for grabs, and the bidding is heating up!” a recent post on the Facebook page says. “So, what are you waiting for? Get those fingers tapping and start bidding!”
